The Shimamura Group operates 6 businesses that sell soft goods (clothing and fashion-related products) in Japan and Taiwan.
Location
The Shimamura Group's store opening strategy is based on dominant store openings. We are opening standardized stores throughout Japan.
When Shimamura was first established, we opened stores near suburban residential areas. The areas were mainly in Saitama Prefecture, where we were founded, and were easily accessible by bicycle. However, since the 1990s, we have expanded by opening stores mainly on suburban areas along main roads, aiming for nationwide expansion. From the early 2000s, we began opening stores in commercial facilities. Since 2000, when we started the Birthday and Chambre brands, we have an opened fashion mall that improves customer convenience by combining the businesses of the Shimamura Group.
We open approximately 70% of our stores as free-standing (single location) stores in suburban locations, approximately 15% at NSCs (Neighborhood Shopping Centers), and approximately 15% at commercial building.
