Sustainability

Basic Policy

Based on our mission of building a "good company" for our employees, customers, business partners, shareholders, and society, the Shimamura Group is promoting sustainable "ESG response by Shimamura" through our main businesses in order to realize a sustainable society.

Priority Sustainability Issues (Materiality)

In order to realize a sustainable society, the Shimamura Group positions various issues related to the environment, society, and governance at each stage of the supply chain as management issues, and takes action to resolve those issues.
We consider our management philosophy and management mission to be in line with the SDGs as advocated by the United Nations. Therefore, we believe that our corporate activities and initiatives to solve those issues will also contribute to achieving the SDGs. We think that nine out of the 17 SDGs have a particularly high relevancy to us. We have then incorporated those into our priority sustainability issues.

*The SDGs are the Sustainable Development Goals. These are goals aiming at realizing a sustainable and better world by 2030 as declared in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development adopted at a United Nations Summit in September 2015.

Sustainability Promotion System

The Shimamura Group engages in sustainable activities for ESG issues in accordance with the basic concept of our sustainability policy.
First, the Management Plan Formulation Committee deliberates on defining themes for ESG issues, establishing a process for resolving those issues, and setting numerical targets. The Board of Directors then makes a decision based on the deliberation.
After that, we set up an ESG Promotion Team in which departments in our company cooperate with each other on the targets that have been determined. It meets periodically once a month to report on the progress of issues, to raise problems and to deliberate on other matters. The Planning Section, a department which responds to ESG issues, manages progress on the contents of activities by the ESG Promotion Team. It then makes a report to the President once a month. It also makes a report to the Board of Directors or the Management Plan Formulation Committee at least twice a year.
